micros
Maybe it’s because they’re teeny, but the appetite for our micro greens seems to be bigger than ever.  We’re happy to offer a wide variety of greens in ‘off-the-rack’ sizes, but our growers also take requests for custom-tailored product.

Tell us what you’re looking for, and we’ll get growing.

garlic_scapes
Think green. Think mild. Think garlic.  Beyond their wicked curl, garlic scapes are one of the most interesting early-summer products. One part vegetable, another part seasoning, they’re extremely versatile… adding a mild, yet green hint of garlic to soups, pasta dishes, salads.  They make a great pesto.

Ours come from Bud O’Connell (a/k/a B.C Bud’s) in the Okanagan, who’s been growing garlic for 15 years. He and his family expect to harvest 3,000 long and curly scapes this season.

watercress_3

Watercress, the salad green that (gently) bites back.

There’s nothing else quite like it. Technically a ‘semi-aquatic,’ watercress has a texture and flavour all its own…pleasantly peppery with bright burst of freshness. Tuck it into a sandwich or salad, or add its tangy green to a veggie sauté. Our watercress floats in fresh from Swift Aquaculture in Agassiz.

Raw potatoes

These new nugget potatoes really do taste new.

In the wide world of spuds, Warba potatoes are typically some of the first out of the ground. Our white Warbas are coming from fertile Delta soils and feature tender skins and creamy texture. Fire up the steamer.

The nuggets will be available for a week or two, with larger (6 in) ones coming mid-July.

make it snappy

Green beans.

Long and lean, get your Delta green beans right now.

Fresh from Fraserland, the largest and closest organic farms to Vancouver. The late Spring heat wave gave their vines a terrific push, resulting in a bumper crop of tender-yet-snappy green beans. But they’ll only be around for a month or so.

In addition, the Harris family also has fresh fava beans and sweet English peas on offer.

Cherries

Tender and sweet, these Rainier cherries are the season’s first pick.

A farmer once likened growing Rainier cherries, a hybrid of Bing and Van varieties, to “playing poker with God,” in that the chance of winning (with a successful crop) are always slight. However, in their naturally sheltered corner of the Similkameen Valley, Steve Venables and Kim Brind’Amour of Ven’Amour Organic Farms typically beat the odds and produce some of the finest Rainiers in BC.  Sweet and delicate, with almost creamy golden yellow flesh, they’re the perfect intro to cherry season.

Strawberries

Sturdy’s strawberries are the pride of Pemberton.

It’s been one of those rare years at North Arm Farm, where the cool spring and gradual warming have allowed all eight varieties of Mayor Sturdy’s strawberries to ripen more slowly…developing intense flavour and juicy sweetness. That said, now that they’re ready, they won’t be around much longer. Give them a starring role on your menu and let them shine.
